Took
up drums in 1963. Heard Ben Pollack, Nick Fatool, Fred Higuera in
person. Lessons from Jake Hanna, 1983. Favorite drummers include the
aforementioned, plus: Sid Catlett, Dave Tough, Zutty Singleton, Jo
Jones, Baby Dodds, Ray Bauduc.
Played with Dukes Of Dixieland, Jim Cullum Jazz Band, Lawson-Haggart
Jazz Band, Wilber-Davern Summit Reunion, Salty Dogs, Climax Jazz Band,
Marty Grosz, South Frisco Jazz Band, Grand Dominion Jazz Band, Scott
Hamilton, Dave McKenna, Bud Freeman, Art Hodes, Bob Havens, Pete
Fountain, George Probert. Led the critically-acclaimed “Roadrunners”
with Rebecca Kilgore and Bobby Gordon. Have made over 150 recordings.
Radio appearances on “Riverwalk: Live From the Landing” with Jim Cullum
Jazz Band, Roadrunners and as a guest artist; on “A Prairie Home
Companion” with Butch Thompson Trio. Television: “Newton’s Apple” with
Silver Leaf Jazz Band; “Club Date” with Scott Hamilton Quintet; Kenny
Davern Quartet; Rebecca Kilgore.
Current musical affiliations: Leader of "Hal's Angels" and the "Jazz
Chihuahuas." Sideman with: Carl Sonny Leyland Trio, Bob Schulz's Frisco
Jazz Band, New Orleans Wanderers, Butch Thompson Trio, Tim Laughlin's
