Larry Ham - Piano: Pianist
Larry Ham has toured around the world with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra
and was a featured soloist with the internationally acclaimed Illinois
Jacquet Big Band (1990-95.) He also worked in the bands of Junior Cook,
Dakota Staton and Panama Francis, and has performed in clubs and
concerts with countless other jazz legends. He is currently the pianist
in the Earl May Quintet. Larry has appeared at many international jazz
festivals, and at jazz clubs and venues throughout the United States,
Europe and in Japan. He performed at the White House for President
Reagan and for President Clinton’s 1992 Inaugural Ball.
Based in Manhattan, Larry is well recognized as a seasoned and creative
pianist and is always active playing, touring and recording with many of
today’s great jazz artists. He teaches piano and improvisation and
promotes jazz and swing performances through his own company, West
Village Music. His recent New York appearances include Carnegie Hall,
The Blue Note, The Village Vanguard, Zinno, Smalls, and The Tavern on
the Green. He appeared in the jazz film Texas Tenor and has been a guest
on "The Today Show" and other major network programs.
Larry was selected as a 2001 Jazz Ambassador by the United States
Department of State and The Kennedy Center. Last summer he toured eleven
West African nations in a two-month cultural exchange program,
performing and teaching workshops on the art of playing jazz music. This
spring he will return to West Africa with his quartet to perform in Côte
d’Ivoire and to appear at the annual Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) Jazz
Festival. In April, Larry will travel to Moscow and St. Petersburg,
Russia as pianist and musical director for the 5th International Moscow
Tapparade 2002, a major tap dance festival.
