Jim Schade

James Schade - Drums:   Jim Schade, an extremely well rounded musician and teacher , grew up in a small town south of Harrisburg Pennsylvania. He began his interest in music by discovering the piano and drums at the early age of 4 years old. His talents grew under the instruction of many well know teachers and players in the Central Pennsylvania area. Throughout high school, he accumulated numerous accolades in the area of music, including All State Percussionist 2 years in a row, receiving the Louis Armstrong award for jazz, and performances with the Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz All Stars Band.

While earning his bachelor's degree in jazz studies at Shenandoah University, in Winchester, Va., Jim studied with John Beck Jr., Airmen of Note drummer, Claude Askew, and former drummer for Langley Air Force Band, Marlon Foster. His performances with the Shenandoah Jazz Ensemble took him on tours through the Netherlands, Europe and Japan. During his college years, Jim also performed in small ensembles throughout the northern Virginia area, Washington, D.C. and Central Pennsylvania. After college, Jim freelanced around the Washington D.C. area and eventually was offered a position as percussionist for the dining room band of the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia.

Now living in Philadelphia with his wife, (who is a pastor and professional musician) he finds himself able to absorb and participate in the rich tradition of music and art that the city has to offer. In his relatively short career, Jim has performed with many seasoned musicians including John Swana, Bootsie Barnes, Randy Johnston, Grant Stewart, Hod O'Brian, Larry McKenna, Randy Brecker, Tim Armacost, Vic Juris, Duane Eubanks, Rosella Washington, among many others in the metropolitan area. He has also appeared as guest musician for the Michael Feldman radio show, "Whaddya Know?", heard on National Public Radio, and on WDCU 90.1 FM, in Washington, D.C. with the Laurence Elder Trio. Jim can be heard on the Live At Ortleib's CD as well as with Philadelphia saxophonist Larry McKenna on his album It Might As Well Be Spring.
